Vanilla Bean In Pod (single)
Description: Vanilla Bean is the dark pod of a climbing orchid. It is fragrant, dark brown to black in colour, and has a glossy and long appearance. Our Vanilla Bean is of the Vanilla planifolia variety and is sourced from Indonesia – one of the leading countries in Vanilla Bean production in the world. It is considered the second most expensive spice after saffron, due to the extensive labour required to grow them.
Directions: Substitute 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract for 1 whole vanilla bean.
Scrape the tiny black seeds from the pod with the tip of a sharp knife. Split the pod in half to attain a stronger aroma, as its surface area will be exposed more to the beverage.
Uses: Vanilla is widely used in both commercial and domestic baking. Vanilla flavouring in foods can be achieved by steeping vanilla pods in liquids like milk or coffee.
Storage: Product should be kept in a cool, dry area at a temperature not exceeding 20°C and protected from direct light. The recommended shelf life is 2 years when stored under the above conditions.
