Organic Spelt Kernels
Description: Spelt Kernels are spelt grains, but with the husks removed. It has a sweet nutty taste and chewiness. It is closely related to wheat, meaning it contains gluten and is therefore inappropriate for Celiac diet. However, this grain is packed with nutrients. It is rich in protein and fibre, along with various vitamins and minerals. Some of its health benefits include improving digestion, controlling cholesterol levels and boosting immunity!
Directions: Rinse 1 cup of spelt kernels. Add 2 1/2 cups of boiling water in a pot and cover. Lower heat and simmer for 45 minutes or until the grain is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
Uses: Spelt can be used as a healthy alternative to rice and other grains – mainly added to salads, soups and stews.
Storage: When stored under cool, dry conditions (temperature not exceeding 15˚C at 60% relative humidity), recommended shelf life is 6 months.
