Triphala is a Sanskrit word which means three (tri) fruits (phala). It is a mixture of
three dried fruits, namely Amalaki (Emblica officinalis or Amla), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica or Baheda) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula or Harad). Triphala is easy to incorporate into one’s daily life as a lifestyle and health supplement which can be consumed in multiple forms such as capsules, extract, tea, powder, tablets and tincture. It is suitable for consumption by adults, children and the elderly.


In Ayurvedic system of medicine, it is said that “Sarvamayaeshu Triphala” which
means Triphala can be used to treat a wide range of health conditions. It is tridoshara (balance the three doshas of the body – Vata, Pitta and Kapha) and rasayana (rejuvenating & antiageing property). Laxative property (ability to cleanse the body) of Triphala helps to cure many illnesses of body. Lower dose of Triphala act as bowel tonic which helps in promoting digestion and prevents heartburn whereas in larger quantity it is used for elimination of toxic wastes which got accumulated in the body (purgation). In addition to this, it has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti- oxidant, hepatoprotective, analgesic, antipyretic, anti- diabetic (esp type 2) property. It is a rich source of vitamin C & iron and a good immunity booster. It also helps to lower cholesterol levels (total and LDL cholesterol), stimulate hair growth, manages arthritis & gout (by eliminating excess uric acid), improves skin, oral and eye health, helps to reduce body weight andelimination of excess fat which got accumulated in the body.


     Some useful preparations of Triphala

     ➢  Triphala powder along with buttermilk helps in relieving hemorrhoids.
     ➢ For eye diseases, washing with Triphala decoction can be used
     ➢ For improving eye vision, 1tsp of Triphala powder with 1⁄2 tsp of ghee can  be taken at night.
     ➢ For non-healing ulcers, washing the wound with triphala decoction can be practised
twice daily.
     ➢ For weight loss, 1tsp Triphala powder with hot water at bed time can be used.
